Most Fish & Chip Shops Not The Same Anymore ?

Recommended Posts

Norwood chippy is good, as is Two Steps and Four Lanes (previously mentioned). It's definitely becoming more of a niche offering, and costs have shot up, but there will always be some demand for it, especially at the coast. Potato harvests in the UK have been patchy in recent years because of floods and drought, which pushes the cost up - cheap as chips is becoming an oxymoron. Not looking good for this year's harvest either because planting was delayed due to floods and a very wet winter. Climate change will be a factor.

Mother Hubbards on London Road is surprisingly and consistently good.

The batter is light and cooked well, the chips are perfectly fried — and they do a spicy batter too, which is excellent. The spicy curry sauce option over the regular chippy curry is great too.

It is my go-to for quick, easy and consistently good.

If anyone is coeliac then Neptune at Banner Cross do fantastic gluten free batter options too. Tip there is to get the gluten free curry sauce (even if you’re not gluten free) as it is far superior to the regular curry sauce. 👍

Mother Hubbards is a chain. They have a few in London.  A salt N battered on London Road was good.

Never got the love for Two Steps, the batter is always soft and feels undercooked.

I've been to George A Greens in Wakefield today, absolutely superb and very reasonable prices.

Long way to go for a fish supper . Was it still warm when you got it home?

Don’t get the love for 1200 calories of acid inducing fried food at £10 a pop wrapped in paper and sweating in a carrier bag.

each to their own though.

Ah, well those in the know tell the chippy to put it in a tray and don't wrap with paper. Stick it the bag, get in the car, drive home like you're Dom from Fast and Furious. Get in the house and job done. It's still nice and crispy.

You're welcome 👍
