HairFarceOne
Wouldn't it be a good idea for candidates in all elections, local and general, to have lived in the area / ward / constituancy, for at least a period of time (5 years?) before being able to be nominated? This would stop all parties parachuting candidiates into seats that they have little knowledge of.

I know that's not the same at a national level - some MPs don't live in the exact boundaries of their constituencies. Live or work, I believe it must be within 3 miles of the ward, so it can be outside of the area. The ballet paper will tell you is they live inside or outside of the area. You can of course choose to vote for a local candidate.

Point-of-order - Tom Hunt wasn't 'Parachuted In' - he has lived in Sheffield for more than 15 years. I know he has worked at the Uni for quite a while and is also the Chair of Trustees at Zest, which seems to have thrived since he joined the board. He was quick to be elected the new leader though, I grant you that. Sheffield Forum | The Sheffield Guide | The Sheffield Shop
