Sheffield's New Parking Rules To Improve Safety For Pedestrians And Cyclists

Recommended Posts

Good idea, as the police don't even investigate most crimes like burglaries, so have no time for cars parked badly.

A few mobile wardens in unmarked cars cruising around would easily hoover up many such crimes and far more than cover their costs - such an easy solution, but way way way beyond the brain cells of those who make such decisions.

SCC have at least one ANPR parking enforcement car but IIRC @Planner1 said there was some rule that stopped them from using it anymore.

I see your Lowedges, Batemoor & Jordanthorpe & raise you Abbeydale Road - bus lanes, bus stops, pelican crossing zig-zags & pavements.

theres lots more and they break the law , in the 70s/80s police used to ticket/fine people now not bothered, wheel chair users and parents with prams ect no consideration

I remember my dad finding a ticket on his windscreen one morning from the police because he'd parked the wrong way round outside his house.

He was on the left side of his road but was facing the other way so any car coming up the road that night, their headlights wouldn't have picked up the red reflectors of his car.

There are people who (regularly) park the 'wrong way round' on Joiner St (between Nursery Street and Stanley St). This is a one-way street towards Nursery Street with prominent No-entry signs at the junction with Nursery St.  Surely anyone parked the wrong way round here has to have contravened rules applicable to One Way Streets.

If the pavements, corners and junctions don’t have yellow lines around them, there’s nothing the council can do, it’s only the police who can enforce and they usually have other priorities.

And that’s where the Police’s online reporting came in great.

Sadly they’ve stopped it now.

Camera enforcement can only be used on school entrance markings and bus stop clearways.

It used to be permitted to camera enforce  other parking contraventions such as no waiting / no loading restrictions, but the government changed the regulations to stop it.

So, most restrictions can only be enforced by a civil enforcement officer, in person.
