It's amazing that someone who lived through that time has no understanding of manufacturing, and why it was already failed. Cheap labour abroad was becoming then, and has been since the reason why we don't manufacture things then and now. 

 

Almost everything in the shops is made by cheaper labour than Britain could ever do again. And when it comes to things like cars, we can't make them as good, even if we had cheap labour.
