You're moving the goalposts here, you said she killed heavy industry and manufacturing. I never commented on this because you didn't mention it.

Is that Labour or Tory fault?

Or neither?

Germany completely restarted after the war. They were already good at building things like cars, and just built on that. We just built rusting unreliable wrecks that weren't even cheap. Constant strikes. Unions are a major part of why we never moved forward. Nationalising all the crap to make something better was a disaster.

Nationalized things aren't necessarily better. Not in Britain's case anyway.

All the miners got a pay off. I've never understood why they couldn't put the money together and buy the site if they were so good. Investors would have put money in too.

Would you have invested?

If they said... right we need £1million to buy this site and mine it.

We have a total of say £500,000, and we want 500,000 £1 shares from people. We'll easily give you a profit.

Would you invest in that local business? I would, if they convinced me I could make money AND keep a few thousand people in work.

Importing food has been going on for a few hundred years. We could stop doing much of it, but people like things all year round, rather than seasonal food. Supply and demand, and business. This type of business has been around as long as 2 villages found out they had neighbours thousands of years ago.

Just old spouted phrases that are meaningless.

Labour shut more pits than the Tories, posters have shown these facts and figures hundreds of times in here.

If you want to know the problem with this country, it is the voting system that means have a choice between two lots of crap. America is the same and look at the state of America. Even though Labour were out for the last 14 years, they won't change the system either because they know that 14 years out is better than never get back in, which probably neither party would get back in full power if the voting was a different system to the current one.

Thankyou for an interesting and considered reply, much of which I disagree with but you would expect that.

However we do agree on your last paragraph. It seems many people are also unhappy hence the proliferation of more  parties forming, none of which can hope for any power under the current 'first past the post' system. We badly need a thorough overhaul of our electoral system so every vote counts. As it is, Conservative or Labour can assume power with as much as two thirds of the vote opposing them. That can't be right surely.

PR is a possible alternative, but I wonder if all the MPs could be independent of party, and the public should be able to vote for the measures they want to see implemented instead, in other words set the agenda / manifesto. There would be problems of course, but could that be made to work?

Well well well, Gary Neville that well known socialist is now appearing on TV championing the Labour election bandwagon,  Tonight he appeared with his fellow millionaire Sir Kier telling us working classes how well off we will be when Labour are elected .

This is the same Neville who took the pot of gold when Qatar offered him the millions to back them in their obscene World Cup event .  An event that was responsible for  hundreds of building workers not being paid on the construction of the stadiums  , Many deaths of workers from the poor Countries of the East .

So we have Neville along with many other celebrities championing the Labour cause while living the exact opposite lives of what a proper Labour Party should represent .

Socialists my arsssse

It happened in 1997.  Celebrities like to be seen supporting the winning side.
