The Gambling Commission has tonight confirmed it is looking at more people linked to the Conservative Party, other than the 4 people named, in connection with bets placed on the timing of the date of the GE.

I wonder what the odds are that one of the names is a former cabinet minister...?

Sunny, The Gambling Commission should bring in rules to prevent people from betting on events which people with inside information can benefit on.  Would  a Weather Forecaster be subject to the same scrutiny if they had a bet on it being snowing on Christmas Day?

Probably not, but then is a weather forecaster seeking election to hold power over people?

Sunny, it's nothing to do with people seeking power.  Anyone betting more than £20 on the correct month for the date of the election is being investigated.  A weather forecaster has inside knowledge just the same as people in close contact with the prime minister do.  Would there have  been a fuss if Elizabeth Rizzina had betted on in raining in Manchester last Wednesday?

There is a difference between having a very good understanding of what you are betting on, and knowing the result.

You mean like betting what colour hat the late Queen would wear at Ascot?

If you are the Queens maid, then you know the answer, most likely.

But would the Queens maid or hat supplier be morally wrong to place a bet?

It is gambling itself that is the problem.
