A lot of Labour's campaign will aim to helping those who earn less, tax them less, tax the wealthier more.

That no doubt will influence many to vote Labour,  especially in North.

I don't mind paying more tax as long as its used right!

Nuanced and complex they may be — but as a marketing professional I will say that you will grind that down into easy to manage chunks and sound bites, whoever the client is.

They’ve had a LONG time to strategise, knowing an election is coming this year. Long ago, they’ll have prepared their messaging, slogans and sound bites to hit.

It is no coincidence that as soon as the election was called Labour activists were holding up ‘Change’ signs (‘Time to change’ or variants thereof).

This election was planned — by all parties — for months, if not years. The data and strategists going into it are incredible. the marketing of it has been designed for a long time.

You would've thought this was the case, but I'm reading this morning that the Conservatives haven't even got candidates in nearly 100 constituencies -  And the Chair of the Conservative Party, Richard Holden doesn't even know if he's been allocated another seat as his is being abolished!

I know Sunak thought that he'd be at an advantage if he sprung a surprise on the opposition about the date of the election; however you'd have thought he would've kept his own party in the loop!

You thought that the Tories have become capable of organising things?  How did you come to that conclusion?

We all have though, the tax banding hasn't moved with inflation or wage growth.  So alot of people have seen their tax bill rise already.

So how do we rate the current ability to spend our tax money effectivly?

And that is the same with council tax, it means that poorer households pay more.

Council tax bands in England are still based on property values in April 1991 – almost 30 years ago. Since then the relative prices of different properties have changed significantly: for example, official estimates suggest the average price in London is now more than six times what it was in 1995, compared with barely three times in the North East.

Moreover, the most valuable properties in 1991 (Band H) attract just three times as much tax as the least valuable properties (Band A), despite being worth at least eight times as much in 1991 and typically even more now, since prices have risen most in areas where they were already highest.

and less affluent council areas take in less tax when they've not got as many high band properties.

Not only does the entire system need overhaul, but the tax take then needs fairly sharing out across the country.

Sunak has claimed his smoking bill shows he's able to take bold action. The smoking bill that now won't become law because there won't be time before the election he's called.
