Glad to see Corbyn elected as an independent. Hope he continues to fight for his constituents and for the greater good of the country. A good man.

It cost Labour a seat. Serves them right.

I hadn't seen Fazia Shaheen in IDS seat until last week on tv.

Even though it's cost them a seat, it was probably worth it as she is a proper trouble maker, not for a purpose, just out of spite.

This chap is by no means one of my favourite MPs, and he's been responsible for some very off comments in the past, but this is a decent example of how to hand over responsibility to your successor.
Some folk here and abroad, could learn something by behaving like this;

Didn't he cost them lots of losses

Didn't he cost them a lot more than one seat in 2019? Worst result since 1935?

And if someone doesn’t wish to vote how do you suggest that they are punished?

People's names are already entered on a list of voters which is then struck off when they turn up to vote, (so they can't vote twice.) So an Automatic £100 fine can be sent to anyone still on the list, same penalty as a parking ticket.

Be interesting to see who replaces Rishi, they've lost alot of the big names.

Jeremey Hunt probably, although I'm not sure the public much like the man.

He's had two attempts and failed.  They need someone who hasn't failed to be the leader before.  Victoria Atkins is my early choice.

Wouldn't that guarantee an anti vote next time around, for whichever government enforced such a policy?

It would be wrong to force people to vote.

According to commentaters Corbyn  got more votes in 2019 than Starmer got this time, but it didn't translate into a win because of the vagaries of the FPTP system.

All sorts of anomalies when you look at our wierd, antiquated voting system...

There is an argument that he should be Father of The House, as Sir Edward Leigh has represented two different constituencies for parliament.
I can't imagine he would make anything of it, but I would quite like to have seen the reactions of others if it had panned out that way.

Diane Abbott set to take up 'Mother of the House' role in Parliament   The Standard
But Jeremy Corbyn misses out on the job of ‘Father of the House’

It was in 2017 that Corbyn got a larger share of the vote.  Starmer beat the 2019 share of the vote that Corbyn got by just under 2%. but is well behind the share of the vote that the Conservative party got in 2019.
