Labour's fortunes can change quickly in these modern times  especially with them only getting 35% share of the vote.  It's not the same as 1997 when Labour last had a big win. The Reform party will be disappointed they didn't get the 13 seats the exit poll predicted.

Can I just say - in our system - it doesn't matter about the share of the vote - it's the seats won.

The achievement of last night was even greater than in 1997. Yesterday,  Labour had to get a bigger swing than they did in 1997.

And they got roughly the same number of seats - that's what gives them their power in Parliament.

Regardless of how bad (or good) things get, Labour will at least win the next one, and possibly the one after.

At least 8 years of Labour now, but maybe 12. That's a given.

Reform were never going to get 13 seats, I don't know which poll gave that, British politics and voting system doesn't allow this.

Things won't change because the 2 big parties won't let it change. They're happy to sit on the benches for a few years still getting paid, and knowing that they are the only ones who will get in power.

I've lived in China and Asia for over a year now, and though the west hates China, I've seen what a government who only wants the best for its people can do. It's like a futuristic dream here, virtually no crime, cheap to rent, cheap to buy, wages are lower but it balances no problem, I eat out every meal. The only thing people come back with is 'look at their human rights with the Uyghurs'. Western media uses this as the only attack on China. The full story never gets told in the west because they know China is doing everything better than America. England is just a little pawn in this story. I've met Uyghurs (sp, I know how to write in Chinese but SF blocked me last time) - they live freely and have no issues. But because a few of them tried a 911 or 77 in China, thinking they could be as powerful as these people, they got locked up for it (and their families).

When I was in Dubai, they have the same policies. If you break the laws, you and your families will suffer / deported in Dubai cases.

I don't follow every thought of course, but I do believe in 'When in Rome', which was also a Confusion thought.

Yes, I remember all the Labour voters moaning about the system when they lost the last 3 elections.

How were they crowing?

Nigel Farage, Richard Tice, and  Lee Anderson wore costumes made of black feathers, climbed in a tree and squawked very loudly.

Apparently Rishi Sunak has nominated the bungling ex minister Chris Grayling for a seat in the Lords.

I can't be bothered to detail his many errors..... Let's just say he made Nadine Dorries look like the model of competence
