Look at the grief Maggie Thatch had from her own side when she was seeking election to be leader of her party. There were plenty of the old boys network laughing at her, calling her a fishwife and a parvenu for putting her name forward

What's that all about?

It is compulsory community service for 18 years olds.  A modern  day replacement for National Service.  Most will be working a few days a year within their own community.  A good idea.
