For the even more simpletons. If the exchequer receives roughly £1.5 Bn extra  in tax, by removing a tax break for the privileged, it can afford 6000 extra teachers for everyone else.

Even if they decided otherwise, they would still have had £1.5bn available to fund 6000 teachers.

What has this got to do with charging VAT for private school fees?

Do keep up.

There is a tax break for the wealthy. They currently don’t have to pay VAT on school fees. Soon that exemption will end and they’ll have to pay the tax.

Its pretty simple really.

Yes agreed, and given they've been very specific about the numbers of extra teachers they want then people can see if the money has been spent on extra staff.

Governments (of any hue) can be 'specific' - doesn't mean it will actually happen though, as we have seen many times.

Of course, but I'm pretty sure if there aren't 6,000 teachers by the end of their first term in office, they will be reminded of their promise.

I’m not sure where they are going to find 6000 new teachers from, but I’m pleased that they are going to try,

The single biggest difference between the independent and state education sectors is the pupil: teacher ratio. Improving that in state schools is key to driving improvements.

All of those whinging about the government taxing school fees correctly should remember that most people don’t use independent schools. Those that do should pay for them properly.

And if the school fees are paid for by a company? They can claim the VAT back…??
