The latest is Sir Keir Starmer has paid back more than £6000  of gifts that he has received since becoming prime minister because of the bad publicity he has attracted for accepting free gifts.  Too little too late, the damage has been done to his reputation.

Why has he paid it back when it was said he had done nothing wrong ?

Because now he is prime minister he is going to abide by new principles. He must have forgot he was going to do that during the first three months of his time as prime minister.

There are no ‘new principals’ just new forms of practice, does the Prime Minister of the U.K. have to have a discussion with their advisers prior to accepting anything from anyone not on the OK list?

This is not a case of ‘there’s a couple of million waiting for you in a Swiss bank account if you sign this arms supply contract’. I’m no supporter of any particular political party before the insults and abuse starts to arrive. 😉

He was warned back in June:

Sir Keir Starmer’s pledge to clean up politics will come back to mock him if he doesn’t deliver

There are several things Sir Keir can do to establish deterrents against dissolute behaviour. Quick steps right at the start of his premiership will be an excellent way to provide a demonstration that Britain is under new management. It ought to please Rachel Reeves that valuable reforms can be introduced without costing the exchequer a penny.

A good start would be to significantly toughen the safeguards to prevent abuses in lobbying and public appointments as well as beefing up the restraints on people moving from roles in government to employment by commercial interests.

Which is ?

I know as much about him as you do. He's made many millions of pounds, so he's got some, or a lot of knowledge about summat. Foreign trading? Health Services? Who knows? Don't just suspect that he was there for selfish or spurious reasons. Like me, you haven't a clue.

i presume to try and placate those using it as a weapon to beat him with?

Which has again backfired.

He should have just rode it out and let it eventually drop from the news (although good luck with that, some are STILL going on about how much Boris made and Partygate!), maybe made a statement saying "we will take no more donations" and just draw a line under it.

But by paying it back it just makes him look guilty and drags the sorry affair on even longer.

I just wish all sides would grow up and stop the mudslinging or petty point scoring and oneupmanship because its recorded for all time online and only comes back to show them up for the hypocrites they are.

You can always rely on Lammy for another bit of idiocy. He's only a few months in and he's agreed to pay a Chinese ally to take the sovereignty of a UK territory in return for being allowed to carry on using what's already ours.

What a mastermind!
