National Service for 18 year olds

Recommended Posts

First Brexit,then Rwanda and now this.It might appeal to those who despair of the kids of today but just another nod to supposedly populist views and ultimately a vote loser.

It's just a gimmick, a good majority of the younger generation go to university, if you mean the work-shy, they will find a way to avoid national service.

Volunteering on a weekend would be a good idea for everyone.

How many on here volunteer every weekend?

Genuine question;

How many Forummers actually did National Service, and what was their experience?

As it finished in 1960 and the minimum age for conscription was 17, that would mean anybody who actually did it would be over 80 years old, so how was it?

And please, not some anecdotal experience of a bloke's, mate's uncle who knew a cousin twice removed.

I was minus 9 when it finished

Oh dear, it seems like there's been a backlash from the armed services.

A Tory Defence Minister said that the introduction of a National Service like scheme would "undermine morale" in the military.

Defence minister ruled out National Service over morale fears day after Rishi Sunak called election | The Independent

Why can't the Tories just read the room?
