El Cid
All pet cats in England must be microchipped by 10 June 2024. Why? I understand with dogs, if a dog attacks someone, we want to know who the owner is. Or if a dog goes missing, if we find it we will know who the owner is. But cats have one owner, then if someone down the road gives them some TLC and food, they then stay with that person. Does the Government not have any other laws to pass, that are more important?
alchresearch
Agree. No idea why its mandatory. As the blurb says: "Microchipping cats will help reunite thousands of lost or stray pets every year" Surely if you care about your cat you'd do this anyway? https://www.gov.uk/government/news/treasured-pets-now-safer-as-microchipping-for-cats-becomes-compulsory
The_DADDY
Neither of our cats are chipped. And neither will be getting chipped.

Slighty batty
I think it depends. If your cat's kept indoors all the time then having it chipped doesn't have much benefit. If it's allowed outside though then it should definitely be chipped in case it gets lost or injured.

For instance, can you keep a snake, lizard or chimpanzee without it being chipped?
