To quote my late grandfather, “Nobody ever died of nowt”. I wonder what Cancer was called prior to it being recognised.

Interesting question. From 'Cancer: A Historic Perspective'  [US National Cancer Institute]:

Based on the information recorded on papyri and hieroglyphic inscriptions, ancient Egyptians were able to distinguish benign tumors from malignant tumors. They were also able to use different treatments, including surgery, and other various modes of medicine.

Hippocrates [c460–370 BCE is credited with naming "cancer" as "karkinoma" (carcinoma) because a tumor looked like a "crab" ("karkinoma" is Greek for "crab") in that there is a central body to a tumor and the tumor extension appeared as the legs of the "crab".

I'd just like to state that the rise in cancers is NOT because of the jibby jabby.

I repeat, it is NOT because of that.

If anyone says it is then they are mental :loopy:

I think we all know who’s mental 😂
