Staniforth Road Police incident

Heavy police presence.

Stop and search.

Financial incentives if people grass on the scum who carry knives.

Serious education in schools about the dangers of carrying a knife.

And the big one..... Build more prisons, give out proper sentences that will act as a deterrent and make them serve the full sentence with no time off. These prisons should be functional and not too comfortable.

Make them work hard for their upkeep by growing their own food, maintaining the prison grounds, fixing their own clothes etc.

Or the government could have simply chosen not to close down all the local industry and get rid of the jobs in the 1980s, thereby avoiding Darnall's slide into deprivation. This is the nonsense of the right wing mentality - let's not subsidise state industry that provides jobs, stability and incomes, instead let's put lots of people in prison at £47k per year.

A bit late for that Delbow it's in the past, what's your solution for now? I haven't seen or heard about this or last weeks riot in the national press, I wonder why?

Is it national news though?! Not sure it is.

The solution is communities coming together, practicing inclusion and tolerance and working on making things more pleasant and better for all — instilling a pride in place and encouraging friendship.

It won’t happen overnight. But it’s the kind of stuff Zahira Naz is doing, alongside a number of community groups, charities and other organisations.

Nothing is solved by standing at a distance sniping online or being intolerant of other races and cultures.

As an aside, none of the usual suspects have been shouting about the latest CSE offenders that were sentenced yesterday. Maybe because they were white (as are the vast majority of CSE offenders in the UK): https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c255g7n4q4yo

I totally agree mate. A lot of communities just close ranks. Its ridiculous as that helps no one. That's why I'd lean towards a heavier handed approach but offer the cash incentives. Go in Mob handed and target the problem residents, get them in custody and move to the next scroat.

Closing ranks in general,  and public services can be guilty of this,  does not favour public confidence imo.

But they're not coming together 'practising inclusion and tolerance' are they? I've no problem with other races or cultures (I've travelled widely) the problem is they will not integrate they come here 'for a better life' but want to carry on with the life they've left. We have a history and culture which we have to tone down/change to suit others.

I don't necessarily think there are solutions for now. Heavy industry can provide decent jobs (if unionised) for people who aren't too skilled or bright and who otherwise would be up to no good. We're now in a post-industrial economy where those jobs have gone and I don't think they're coming back - in fact, automation is making it worse by raising the minimum skill level needed for work, and the rate of automation increases exponentially. In short, there is no bright future under capitalism, just different degrees of bad.

What do you think is going to happen then, to revive the fortunes of places like Darnall? By what mechanism will jobs and investment restore it? Cos it's been about 40 years now with no sign and nothing on the horizon.

It will be true in Darnall because it has a high immigrant population. In Ireland, it's Irish people who cause most of the problems because Ireland is mostly full of Irish people. In Russia, it's mostly Russians who cause all the problems and do all the crime because they don't like letting other people in to do it instead. In Liverpool, organised crime is heavily white dominated and they have a bigger gun problem than a knife problem, for reasons I don't understand.

Poverty generates crime, the way to reduce crime is by reducing poverty. The Cleveland police area has one of the worst, possibly the worst, violent crime rate in the country and it's 96% white. It's also - surprise, surprise - a very poor area.

Not surprised Middlesbrough is a rough old oyl.
