Irish soldier, Cathal Crotty, beat a woman unconscious in the street after she asked him to stop shouting 'faggot' at people.   He bragged about it to his friends afterwards on Snapchat (“Two to put her down, two to put her out”) but when arrested blamed the woman for instigating the attack.  He only admitted the assault when presented with irrefutable CCTV evidence.

Oh.  Wait a minute.  Of course he didn't.  He got three years suspended and walked free after the judge took into account the guilty plea (made only after, in light of the evidence, he had little other choice), and consideration of the poor, sweet lad's army career and the fact that a custodial sentence would damage it (heaven forfend!).

 

The army appear to have other ideas though: Soldier who attacked woman has been formally told he likely faces dismissal from the military. Good.

Absolutely shocking attack. Regarding the perpetrator's army career, and the fact that a custodial sentence would damage it shouldn't be taken into consideration, the crime is the crime, and should be judged purely on that.
