Sheffield is nowhere near as safe as it used to be.

I don’t scare easily, perhaps because I try not to spend my time in scary places. I’ve never liked multi storey car parks so never use them. John Wortley worked in one at night, it scares me to even think about it, he was clubbed to death for a few quid in takings, so it appears to be robbery and not personal, and that’s the extent of my knowledge on this terrible waste of a man’s life.

I can't find the stats for Sheffield, but for England and Wales generally, the homicide rate gradually increased from the 1970s until the early 2000's, then gradually declined again, with rates now back to those of the late 1970's.
