Delbow
Story in today's Star about a Sheffield resident fined for fly tipping in Eckington. £300 isn't enough is it? I thought councils now have the power to confiscate the vans of fly tippers, so why isn't this being done routinely? It must cost more than £300 to bring the prosecution.

In this case it's likely a go between actually did the fly tipping, rather than the people named on the document they found.

One would assume that the recipient of the fine didn't properly vet the credentials of the waste carrier. But what happens if you do and they still fly-tip? Jim Hardie
Why wasn’t the person named? A secret fine isn’t much of a deterrent.

Nobody’s going to trawl through that. Why didn’t the Star save us the trouble?

Falling income from paper sales and advertising and people turning to social media.
