Not to mention all this is being built on a flood plain.

It spells disaster for the next flooding and they will be one.

Aye, but they'll be able to give a live demo for the canoes, swimming gear and other weird tut down the centre isle.

How would it degrade the existing cycle infrastructure apart from cyclists having an extra red light or so and anyway don't forget that many cyclists don't even bother to use the cycle paths provided

There was land that had been protected for use in the future for a high-quality cycle lane. That's now off the table because of this.

Perhaps if actual useful, high-quality lanes which actually worked for cyclists were built & protected then they would actually use them instead of the road.

Oh it will get used, one way or the other. Anyone who drives down from Stannington/Loxley area, especially on match days, will have to have the patience of Job! As if there aren't enough shops/ eateries in the area! I think the Council are mainly after the business rates.

The council haven't created this plan - it is private developers.

Yes, it has to go through planning, but the council can only reject planning under very specific circumstances that go against planning policy. Of course, they'll get business rates, but that is secondary to this development happening really.

Plenty of other supermarkets for the Stannington / Loxley folk to choose from, and games on Saturday afternoon are once a fortnight in the footy season.
