R I P Ray Reardon

Recommended Posts

Ray, one of the all time greats of snooker on TV in the ‘70s has passed on to the great table in the sky aged 91.

Affectionately known as Dracula due to his hair style and teeth and tutored great players like Ronnie O’Sullivan.

Saw him at the Grand Hotel in Scarborough around Christmas time circa 1987/88. He was doing some sort of Snooker exhibition. There was a competition to win playing a frame of Snooker with him, unfortunately I didn't  win it, but was a fantastic evening. He was there 2 or 3 days if I remember correctly. Lovely genuine bloke, R I P Ray.

Dragged snooker kicking and screaming from a closed shop insular “club” into a game for the people.

Insisted on proper facilities for the players, rather than using the toilets as a dressing room and kicked off Pot Black on BBC 2 which of course was originally in black and white and the rest as they say is history.
