RIP John Mayall

Recommended Posts

Blus musician John Mayall has passed away aged 90, with his band the Bluesbreakers (featuring non other than Eric Clapton) he was at the forefront of the British Blues Explosion of the 60's, a very talented and influential musician.

First LP I bought (aged 14 back in 1970) was a compliation "World of John Mayall" which was some of his best tracks from 1965 to 1970 when he was on Decca,

As well as Clapton, Peter Green who formed Fleetwood Mac with other "Bluesbreakers" Mick Fleetwood and John McVie. and Mick Taylor who joined the Stones honed their craft playing with Mayall.

Saw him at the City Hall c1971 in the days when he was playing with Larry Taylor and Harvey Mandel (both ex Canned Heat) in a band without a drummer - very unusual in those days, Remember the encore was "Room To Move", probably his best known track from those days, which featured his harmonica skills.

Thanks for the memories John.

Thanks for the memories John.

On the subject of drummers; both Jon Hiseman and Aynsley Dunbar were "Bluesbreakers" at one time or another. So many excellent musicians in Mayall's band over the years
