Yes the people who actually need this should get it, those on certain benefits, those who never had a work place or private pension, those who struggle to put food on the table and have to choose between heating or eating in winter. The people who don't need it are the polar opposite to the above... the ones who invested in pensions or got lucky and had a huge payout, the ones who go on holidays, can afford to buy new cars. I say this from a place of experience, I have two sets of in laws, each set fits into the above definitions... and currently they both get the winter fuel payment, even though one doesn't need a penny of government help, they buy a new car every 3 years... buy, not finance, buy outright with cash... surely nobody could argue that they need help with covering the cost of heating their main home? Yes main home... they have 2, a main and a holiday.

Some food for thought for people who voted Tory in 2019, maybe. So Labour would have coped with Covid , exactly how ?

Don't know, but the point is that test and trace delivered almost no benefit, therefore it was money wasted. It really is a phenomenal amount of money as well. Popular Post Allen
So…I worked from age 16. Paid all my taxes, national insurance etc. Retired and received the basic state pension…just over the limit to receive pension credit. Now it appears I’m to loose £300 a year. Compare that to someone who refused to work and claimed everything going. They can still have the £300 winter allowance. This labour government is no longer the party for the working class!

This is the basic flaw with the benefits system, those who behave responsibly, live within their means and save get nothing whilst the feckless and irresponsible get money thrown at them.
