Popular Post Anna B
Tell you what, instead of cutting pensioner's heating allowance or arguing about child allowance and child poverty, why not cut the subsidies in the house of commons bars and restaurants so MPs pay the going rate like the rest of us. They are well paid, and have generous expense accounts plus plenty of other perks, so should they really be getting subsidised lunches, subsidised three course dinners with wine, and nights in the Commons bars with prices at rock bottom thanks to the generosity of the UK tax payers? ,

They are well paid, and have generous expense accounts plus plenty of other perks, so should they really be getting subsidised lunches, subsidised three course dinners with wine, and nights in the Commons bars with prices at rock bottom thanks to the generosity of the UK tax payers? , The House of Commons has said that as well as 650 MPs, the catering services are also open to around 14,500 other parliamentary pass holders such as MPs staff, House staff, civil servants, contractors, Peers, members of the press and a “large number” of non-pass holding visitors. https://fullfact.org/online/17-million-year-food-drink-subsidy-parliament/ Most recently, in 2021/22, the total cost of catering services minus the sales income was just over £7.5 million. In 2020/21, this cost was around £9.1 million. These are both much higher than the costs in previous years. In 2019/20 it cost £4.6 million, 2018/19 £2.6 million, 2017/18 £3.1 million and 2016/17 £2.9 million. The costs were so high in 2020/21 because it included Covid-19 lockdowns in England, which meant many people worked from home and sales were limited, but fixed costs remained high.

Paid all my taxes, national insurance etc. Retired and received the basic state pension…just over the limit to receive pension credit. Now it appears I’m to loose £300 a year. Compare that to someone who refused to work and claimed everything going. They can still have the £300 winter allowance. This labour government is no longer the party for the working class! Bingo. And labour rewards them for not working or contributing. You couldn't make it up.

Well even Labour should have no difficulty identifying them should they?
