This is brilliant what Judge Linford said to rioter John Cann- who called for better use of taxpayer money rather than going into supporting refugees.

Judge Robert Linford then rounded on Cann telling him that according to his police interview he discussed with them "about the better use of taxpayers' money and why people were having to pay to keep these people in this country after committing such heinous crimes."

Judge Linford then launched a stinging rebuke, saying: "So let's look at how the taxpayer have been funding your activities over the last 38 years - let's see what you've cost the country: you've got 10 aliases, four fictitious birth dates, you're 51 years of age, you've been convicted of 170 offences, you been convicted of theft, arson, taking cars, handling stolen goods, obtaining by deception, burglary, dangerous driving and possessing bladed articles. In all over the years that you've been visiting the criminal justice system you've received sentences totalling 357 months in prison, many of them concurrent.

"In other words, nearly 30 years. That Mr Cann is what you've been costing this country and you sit there in that interview and saw fit to be critical of others. You have no right whatever to say who should or should not be in this country."

Brilliant 👏

It's incredible isn't it - career criminals complaining about the crimes (or just the imagined crimes) of others. That's racists for you though.

1 in 4 women in the UK have been raped or sexually assaulted as an adult and 1 in 6 children have been sexually abused (figures from Rape Crisis). These racists will try and burn down a hotel with kids in it because they've been told by neo-Nazis that it's full of rapists and they're 'protecting are kids', but the pub they've just come from probably has a couple of rapists drinking there - but they're white so it's different.

Remember playing a darts match against a team in Crookes in the late 80's. They were celebrating the release of a brother of one of the team after his release following a (pretty short) sentence for rape - after all he was "one of the lads".

Thick as pig muck springs to mind.

Nobody is shutting down people who want to discuss how deprivation is an important underlying factor. However in much the same way as after the 2011 riots, people sought to justify post hoc the mass looting of shops selling trainers and televisions as some kind of noble response to austerity; you're now seeking to re-write history and claim the cause is deprivation.

Yes of course the riots happened in deprived areas, but what you're also ignoring is that many of the rioters traveled to those areas to riot, just like they traveled to Southport to smash the place up.

The people who were the target of the rioters weren't the wealthy, but people of similar socio economic origins as the rioters, or in the case of the Rotherham hotel, people who were significantly worse off than the rioters.

Have a read of David Olusoga's article in today's Observer - probably one of the most clear eyed analysis you'll read on the events of the last 2 weeks:

There can be no excuses. The UK riots were violent racism fomented by populism | David Olusoga | The Guardian

Not defending the Nr Pogromists, but may of them will certainly not have the funds to travel across the world, pay people smugglers, etc.

That's just vile.

I've no idea why that suddenly posted whilst I was typing
Excellent article by The Secret Barrister here;

Two tier justice? Cutting through the online myths   ;the secret barrister, August 14, 2024

Much has been written, tweeted and amplified about the English and Welsh criminal justice system’s response to the recent incidents of public disorder, very little of which is accurate. Below is a quick primer on the truth behind some of the more popular and virulent myths.
