Cody's Granddad
But didn't survive todays drug wars which is why it was demolished. It was handy for parking when visiting Hillsborough and that was about it

carosio
I once went in (briefly) with a friend sometime in the early 80s, and remember the low ceiling where cig smoke accumulated so thick it was like a dense fog. Glad to get out!
SheffieldForum
It significantly deteriorated in its last decade or so to be fair. As the previous 'big pub' in the area, it suffered massively when Wetherspoons opened The Rawson Spring and just never recovered. Went from being full most weekends to just being empty all the time. And it was a big pub to be empty. I remember going in on a couple of Saturday nights and being the only group in there at the peak time. It could have pivoted and done food, etc, but it still wouldn't have been able to compete with The Rawson, I don't think. For a while it seemed to barely survive solely on the more undesirable elements that had been barred from every other pub in the area, so the more respectful clientele stopped going and nobody wanted to really take on the problems it had at that point. Sadly, you could see the writing was on the wall for some time and it was inevitable that unless something drastic happened it just wouldn't survive and there were rumours for years it was going to be demolished. It eventually happened in 2017. It would have been nice to keep as an historial building (it even had blue plaques on, to commemerate its role in and survival of the Great Sheffield Flood. Plus it had historical links being the pub that was situated on the old village green of Owlerton, etc. It is a shame that nothing has really progressed with the site since the demolition. It is a huge plot they have that stretches right around the back of the old bank and backs onto the gardens of Hawksley Road! Last I knew it was to be used to extend the shopping centre and add ~77 apartments, but that was proposed several years ago. 2 Sheffield Forum | The Sheffield Guide | The Sheffield Shop

Yes, it might have "had its day" as a pub but it was a shame to lose such an old building with its historical links. See here from Samuel Harrison's book about the Sheffield Flood.
