My ex had one, used to listen to CQ and the police.

Early 1960’s, my grandparents old black and white television set used to pick up the police radio if ever they drove past the house. Grandad would be watching the horse racing and then all of a sudden there’d be interference and it was all Charlie Tango Foxtrot.

Who had a CB radio ?  My brother had one . Remember him sat in his car , snow piling up outside , saying 1.9 , 1.9 for a copy . He was obsessed . 😅

And quite some time after that came the internet, and we all gradually became obsessed with that until it was a part of daily life. (Communication being the common thing)
