There's a good argument, economic if nothing else, for intervention that's preventative, i.e. reduces the need for statutory social work interventions at a later date. Things like Early Help services, or any family support service, contribute to this. There's been a huge increase in families meeting the threshold for social work intervention over the last 15-20 years, which many social workers attribute to greater poverty. Child poverty has certainly become more of a problem in the UK. So, improving the economic circumstances of the general population by spreading wealth more equally is likely to make a significant positive difference.
