Something about female vampires and moths...

Recommended Posts

There are some vampire creatures in Albanian mythology. They include shtriga and dhampir. Shtriga is a vampiric witch in traditional Albanian folklore that sucks the blood of infants at night while they sleep, and then turns into a flying insect (traditionally a moth, fly or bee).

I also know there are a few vampire moths....I didn't need to Google that!!

Absolutely loved the Hammer Horror films!

I didn't,  my sister watched them and used to recount every gory detail,  not my cup of tea.

There were lots of corny poorly produced ‘horror’ films in the ‘50s like the ‘Creature from the Black Lagoon’ 1954 but the only one that really scared me was in 1960 as  a 14 year old, was Hitchcock’s Psycho shown at the Gaumont.

The Gaumont, you always were posh.

I watched it in one of the many flea pits in Shiregreen.  (Paragon I think,, Firth Park)

Us scallywags couldn't afford the luxury of the Gaumont.

"Psycho" has stood the test of time, without a doubt the best horror film of that Era.

Anyway, a word of warning Echo.

Thursday night 10-35 pm. "Psycho" Channel 9. BBC 4.

WATCH IT IF YOU DARE.

Funny thing is Padders that my mate and I saw this long queue outside the cinema but strolled up to the box office, bought our tickets and went in to see the film. An usherette came rushing after us  saying sorry but you can’t enter. We thought that we’d been sussed as underage. What we didn’t know  was that Hitchcock had stated no one could enter and see the film except from the beginning. So we joined the back of the queue and ended up peeping through the button holes in our coats when the most terrifying bits were shown.

Apparently Hitchcock deliberately made it in black and white because he said it would be too horrific in colour.

echo.
