If your teenager has a weekend job, where do they work?

Recommended Posts

Hi, my nearly 17-year-old has been looking for weekend work for quite some time, without much luck. He's articulate, well-presented, etc, but he hasn't got the opportunity to demonstrate those skills as he's not been invited for an interview yet. I wonder if just popping round to a few shops/cafes, etc, might work better? If your teenager has found a job, can I ask you where they work and how they found it? Thanks!

Indeed, popping around some shops and such is a good idea. Places like cafes can often do with waiting or cleaning help during busy weekend shifts.

Is there anyone in terms of your friends or family that may have some kind of casual work for them? That's often a good entry into working because it is mutually beneficial, encourages good work ethic whilst having someone trusted to keep an eyew on them.

Alternatively, it may be a good idea to look into volunteering in order to gain experience. A summer of volunteering for a local charity or cause would work wonders in terms of showing some kind of experience, ability, willingness, etc. It makes for a great entry on a CV or job application and also is very fulfilling. Try somewhere like Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust, or Voluntary Action Sheffield to see what opportunities are available.
