Anyone mention Ladybirds... thousands of 'em.

I remember the ladybirds  ......   there were swarms and swarms of them.  One of my cousins went to Southend On Sea and she said the ladybirds  ( which were biting people ) were everywhere,  anything that had a surface was covered in ladybirds and millions were floating on the sea .     :gag:

My first son born February '76, trying to keep him cool and in the shade most of the summer.

Blissfully unaware of my first child to be born in Aug 77

The other four followed closely after.

The very last summer I could ‘ Take it Easy ‘

Went for a walk one Sunday morning with a mate and his dog, Out from Deepcar to Morehall via a path just below Wharncliffe Crags, Returned by Manchester Road - when we got to the Bitholmes the footpath was an inch deep in ladybirds in places - must have trodden on a few hundred thousand.

Got back to the Pen Nook, Deepcar, just in time for it opening on Sunday dinner - thought we'd earned our ale  😊

I have a distinct memory of a holiday in Bridlington, with walls covered and gutters full of ladybirds.  I was too young to remember it in '76, so either I've grown up with the tale told by family members and taken it on as my own, or Brid suffered another ladybird plague a few years later.

I do remember the greenfly plague in Brid in the 70s though.
