First place I can remember seeing it was Hanrahan's opposite the Hallamshire Hospital. We often went straight from work on a Friday for "happy hour". This was mid '80's,

I just Googled it & it does say 80s , so you may be right

First drinking I had was in 1979 at 16 at a party, the nights cocktail was made up of:

A Barley Wine, vodka and orange (cordial), Cinzano Rosso, cider, sweet white wine and beer and finish with sherry!!

Yes I was ill, yes I got a clout off my mum for ruining the carpet and having a party and I didn't drink again until I was nearly 30!

Happy Days 😀

The nearest thing I ever had to a cocktail was a barley wine and guinness. The bar staff had to be told how to pour it, and to be honest, I've forgotten.

If they poured in the wrong order there would be an explosion and the brew would rise up to the top of the pint glass and almost overflow. I'm guessing guinness first then barley wine, but I'll never know for sure!

Nice drink though! Hic.

Back in the 70's when I worked behind a bar it was fairly common for some of the blokes to order a pint and a barley for last orders and top the pint up with the barley.

I love a honey old fashioned, I like old fashioned too but honey with a pinch of salt is my favorite, but I like Martini's too and gin and it. If it's got alcohol in it probably ok.
