I'm happy for someone to correct me on that though. The Americans allow people convicted of criminal offences to run for POTUS, which is a position of actual power, the Irish Presidency is mainly ceremonial in representing the country as First Citizen, but in order to be able to run for the office certain requirements are needed. The applicant has to have been nominated by at least 20 members of the Oireachtas ( Irish Parliament ) or 4 local authorities. To date a Senator has said " I wouldn't nominate him to wash the dishes. " and a TD ( MP ) has said " I wouldn't nominate him to wash my shoes. " Possibly not the response Conor was hoping for? Barron99 is right, it's a publicity stunt. Still intrigued by your " the current rabble " comment. What's that all about?
