Sheffield Christmas Markets and New Festive Weekend Event Set to Light Up the City

 

As the countdown to Christmas begins, Sheffield is gearing up for the festive season. The much-loved Sheffield Christmas Markets are returning on Thursday 14th November, running right up until Christmas Eve, with an exciting new addition to the festivities – the Crackers for Christmas weekend.

 

A New Festive Weekend

 

In a first for Sheffield, the Crackers for Christmas event will take place from Saturday 16th to Sunday 17th November, offering a weekend packed with family-friendly performances and activities. From musical and dance acts to street entertainment and crafts, the event promises something for everyone.

 

Councillor Martin Smith, Chair of the Communities, Parks and Leisure Committee, said:

 

“Christmas is set to be bigger and better than ever this year, here in Sheffield. Not only are the incredibly popular Christmas markets back, which offer a massive boost to local traders and businesses, but the city centre will also play host to a full weekend of family-friendly performances and activities at the Crackers for Christmas event. We hope to see Sheffield residents and visitors head down over the course of the weekend and enjoy this fantastic new event.”

 

Expanding Markets and Local Traders

 

Sheffield’s Christmas Markets have grown significantly over the years, expanding from just a handful of stalls to more than 50 cabins, offering a full shopping experience. This year, over 80% of the traders are local, celebrating Sheffield’s independent business scene.

 

The markets will be spread across Town Hall Square, the Peace Gardens, and The Moor, offering a range of festive food, drink, and gifts. Visitors can indulge in Yorkshire pudding wraps, German sausages, churros, and much more. Three Alpine Bars will be open from 10am until late daily.

 

Family Fun and Festivities

 

For families, the Christmas fun includes a carousel at Barkers Pool, the iconic big wheel on The Moor, and Santa’s grotto at Tudor Square. The city will also be illuminated from Cambridge Street to Barkers Pool, Pinstone Street, and the Peace Gardens with twinkling lights from 4pm daily, running until Thursday 5th January.

 

Key Event Times

 

Crackers for Christmas:

 

Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th November, from 11am to 5pm. A full event line-up will be announced closer to the time.

Christmas Markets:

 

• Pinstone Street: 10am – 7pm Sunday to Thursday and 10am – 8pm Friday and Saturday.

• The Moor: 10am – 6pm Sunday to Thursday and 10am – 7pm Friday and Saturday.

Can I please be enrolled as soon as possible as member Numero Uno in your promising sounding Very Important P***artist Club?

 

For those who aren't aware, I have dedicated my life, as I know you have Mr. P, to consuming as much of the offerings at local hostelries as I could possibly manage. It's been hard at times, but like you I have persevered in sometimes difficult circumstances to get where I am today.

 

I'm sure you'll agree with me, that it's made us both the fine upstanding people that we are today. Although I'm not sure that  upstanding, with legs that wobble, is the proper description..

 

As for the other benefits of membership? Well...

 

The only cross words I've heard in there are those exchanged between you and the bar staff when you try to reduce their working hours,

Discounted drinks - haven't you realised yet that when you go down the cellar to change kegs we all nick a few bottles to keep us going? That's our discount.

Discounted meals - yes they should be discounted, as not fit for human consumption

And finally Special Events - why you ever considered that you playing the Spoons, and your Saturday night barmaid, fingers adorned with thimbles, playing the washboard is Special is beyond me.

 

However, I can see that club membership will be a great benefit to me and others who decide to join (But even more to you) and will publicise your Festive programme as widely as possible to ensure its future success. (A membership discount mind you would help to encourage me to put extra effort into this)

well padders bar is the best, far better than that rubbish in town, loads of after bird, free carry you to the taxi, bit harsh if banned for more than 1 time as you cannot go back for 2 hours ,and free coffin measuring service.

I love Christmas, decorating the gaff and all that, but Christmas markets are just a rip-off, plain and simple.  If you go to one, you know you might like it for an hour or so, but you know you're going to get fleeced. You'll never get value for money, you just have to accept it. That said, you may get something of a one-off artisan item
