compromised e/mail address

Recommended Posts

I'm getting hundreds or e/mail telling me I have a virus, or I'm sending out viruses, these come from " Microsoft, google, e.bay" you name it I've had an e/mail from them. Clearly my Address has been compromised, The question is, is there anyway I can keep the address, or do I have to drop it and start again. Thanks.

Is this an ISP address, or a Yahoo/Gmail type one?

It's almost impossible to prevent your email address from being leaked, changing addresses is just a temporary fix. The number of emails you are receiving will gradually reduce over the next few days.

You could try this site (it is safe) which will tell you which leaks your email address was found in:

https://haveibeenpwned.com/

So you think I might as well keep this e/mail address and wait it out, that would suit me, I must admit, as It's my main Address, but equally, I don't want to make anyone a gift of my information.

@aardvark6535 I agree with @andysm - annoying as these things are, the spammers will only use your address for a short time, and the volume of emails will reduce to near zero over a week or so. Depending on how many people have this address, you could dump it and create a new one, but telling everyone your new address is tine consuming.

One  thing I would highly recommend though, is to change the password.
