bassett one
as a great believer on safety and i think all bonfires should be controlled events, especially due to size of the new fireworks and gardens getting smaller, but sheffield gone from loads of free events in parks ect, to holding just one major event which is beyond most folks pocket especially with things being bad, and maybe just 2-3 options, what should be done now in this modern world or our city ? 1
gaz 786
Always believed in community bonfires as kids we spent days collecting wood and adults were always in attendance on the 5th November

RollingJ
What will I be doing on November 5th ? -ignoring it, as far as possible - as I have done for probably the last 50 years.

Better than Christmas for me when I was a kid .
Bellatrix
I think Halloween has taken over from Bonfire Night, certainly in terms of doing things with little kids. Dressing them up, and decorating the house, is quite big here with families with small kids. I certainly haven't seen any 'penny for the Guy' types in many a long year. There are a couple of organised firework displays that people go to around here, but mostly it's folk setting off ridiculously loud banger type fireworks and rockets for ten minutes. Pretty pointless, really.
