I think Halloween has taken over from Bonfire Night, certainly in terms of doing things with little kids.  Dressing them up, and decorating the house, is quite big here with families with small kids.  I certainly haven't seen any 'penny for the Guy' types in many a long year.

There are a couple of organised firework displays that people go to around here, but mostly it's folk setting off ridiculously loud banger type fireworks and rockets for ten minutes.  Pretty pointless, really.

You could be right, fireworks are literally watching your money go up in smoke. At least with Halloween there's the possibility of reusing the items/decorations next year ... if they last that long.  You don't tend to smell of smoke neither

Community bonfires in Sheffield used to be great, usually accompanied by a fair, music, hot dog stalls etc.

My kids loved them. They found going out in the dark to an event thrilling too.

IMO The more events to build community spirit the better.

Do we really need firework night, all those bonfires people getting burnt, not to mention sparklers that can cause injury

Fireworks that make such an awful noise and bonfire toffee that makes people fat, people going to events and eating things like hot dogs

I won't be taking part in any firework events

Plus all those misogynists burning Catherine Wheels......it's never Geoff Wheels or Ken Wheels is it? Oh no, never. Basically anyone attending a bonfire is a woman hater
