That settee looks like it's been made from shuttering board. They haven't even taken the edges off a bit, or rounded them off. 🙄

Having been someone who has worked in such buildings for a fair percentage of his life, I don't think I could live in one no matter what.  Cold, dank places, uneven walls, grime, mental images and such, I wouldn't be able to cope. However, if I were a young sprog with no imagery, I doubt it would be too much of a concern. It's great to see the development though, but they're always going to be factories to me

They can still have the open design but there must be a rail on the wall side. 

 

This would further my thought that it's a conversion done with being certified 

It’s the tenant who needs certifying.

Ideal for a West Indian sailor. No bed required. Just rig a hammock between the truss timbers!😀
