Golf courses?

Recommended Posts

I'm from Glasgow originally, but have been down here a few years - but left the golfing hobby in Glasgow!

Was considering starting back up again, but wondered if anyone could recommend the best courses? I've had a few hacks around Beaucheif - but its a bit pants really.

Anyone?

Ok - what about a happy medium - because thats the one thing I hate about golf - poshness! Its hitting a small ball around a feild, when did that become so exclusive and high brow???

Anyway - what about hillsborough golf course? any good?

The course itself is OK but the club keeps getting vandalised cos the management are probably too tight to employ decent security people or install CCTV that actually works.

I remember a few years back when it got arson-ised, took 'em aaaaaaages to rebuild it.

I'm coming to Sheffield uni in September so I could do with knowing where the decent courses are too. Does anyone know what course the university of Sheffield uses as it's 'home course', is it Bondhay?

The top 5 courses in Sheffield are IMHO

Abbeydale

Hillsborough

Hallamshire

Dore and Totley

Renishaw

These are all private courses and are old established courses.

Municipal courses/Pay and Play

Beaucheif

Tinsley

Birley

Rother Valley

Concord?

Out of these Beaucheif IMHO is the best followed by Rother Valley, there is also Queens Park at Chesterfield which is OK.

Bonday is a new course out nr Worksop, it is very good, but not fully established yet.

Lindrick nr Worksop is also a very good course but again its private and will be expensive, this is Lee Westwood's home course and once hosted the Ryder Cup.

Hope this helps, must get out my clubs this year now and get out.

Maybe we could have a forum comp?

One of the best courses I've played is Tinsley Park; it’s a challenging course by all accounts with some stunning scenery too.

Is anyone entering the Ultimate Sheffield Golf Open tournament on 18, 19 & 20 June? Apparently it is going to be one of the biggest golfing events in the region.
