cressida
Mine's a Potterton, last time I tried to get it fixed he said it was the ignition and wouldn't be a problem, then he said there was a part missing and he couldn't get it
zigzag
Carefull with naked flames in the boiler the pilot light does not go out for nothing ,most new boilers have self ignition. as said previous read the instructons or phone a gas engineer .If you have not turned the gas off it could be a thermocouple or fan problem. mrmist
no being serious you could try getting one of thos long spark lighters and take the cover of and try re-lighting it. . Holy poo. There's no way I'd go poking around in my boiler with a naked flame.

zigzag
Is it dangerous though if the boiler light goes out? Its not dangerous if its a modern boiler these things have fail safe default and shut down if somethings not right but im no expert ,again ring a repair man it might cost you a call out fee but you can not be stingy when it comes to safety. Sorry if that sounds a bit patronizing ,just trying to help

big_g
I take it that the boiler's calling for heat - i.e. the stat on the wall is turned up (if you have one), the programmer is showing all the correct lights, the stat on the boiler is not down low. As mentioned, a make and model would help us to give basic advice. I'm assuming that it's a boiler with a hot water cylinder (tank) rather than a combi.
