Well yippee! a bike race!

I'm so pleased that the two and a half hours I've spent getting from Woodseats to Herries Rd was in aid of such an sporting event as this..:suspect:

Well done once more to Sheffield City Council for organising this and giving so much pleasure to the thousands of commuters of Sheffield :loopy:

I'm sure it went over really well on the likes of calendar....thank god it was Sheffield featured for a change instead of Leeds eh?

I'd like to meet the councillors who okayed this prestigious sporting event so I can personally thank them from the bottom of my now cold black heart

*and I've just noticed on the SF ticker a piece about congestion charges in the city centre......yes, I think the council should be charged........

So, what with all the closures, extra police officers, rock steady, police escorts etc, how much did it cost the tax payer? Other than time spent in traffic jams, and a minimal spectator turn out (as everyone was in work, funding the event), what exactly was the economic value to the region? ZIP.

I think the major factor on why the traffic delays was a little worse than usual today due to the Tour of Britain stage finish was the fact there was 30 minutes between first & last place rider. If the peleton had all been together they could have opened up the roads alot sooner.

The Tour of Britain people due try to keep traffic delays to a minimum by starting stages at around 10am and having them finished by mid afternoon. Just a shame they dont do what the Tour de France does and have stage finishes at around 5pm, just think of the ranting that would be going off, this thread would be 100 pages long.

Who in their wisdom decided to stage this race on a weekday??? What's wrong with a Sunday?

Its the tour of Britain cycling race so started earlier in the week and finishes Sunday (I think) still blo*** annoying though

Yes and I got stuck behind it in Bakewell last year as well.

When I came down the Netherthorpe Rd dual carriageway between 3 and 4 pm there was also some sort of accident which wasn't helping matters, but traffic seemed to be gridlocked all the way along Penistone Road too, even though the race went nowhere near there. So I went to Tescos instead.
