Alcohol with antibiotics

Recommended Posts

i had amoxocillin 2 weeks ago and could drink but im now on metronidazole and it actually says avoid alchohol on the box, plus my dentist told me not to have any. :shakes:

Metronidazole is related to a drug used to discourage alcohol consumption, called antabuse, and shares some of its side effects. What happens when you drink alcohol when you're on it is that you'll feel like death warmed up and vomit for England, but that reaction in itself is actually harmless (you won't pop your clogs or anything - but you'll wish that you had cos you'll feel that dreadful).

Quick question, can i drink alcohol with taking antibiotics? Or does it cancel it out?

I was on antibiotics when abroad a couple of years ago. Took a tablet at 3pm, later on it was an England game so I went out and had about 4 pints later that night.

All night, and most of the next day I was violently ill :)
