Dragonfall
Leeds, Manchester and Nottingham all serve considerably bigger populations than Sheffield. Sheffield is bigger than Nottingham & Leeds. With a population of 547,000, the City of Sheffield is England’s third largest metropolitan authority … http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/your-city-council/sheffield-facts-figures/population-information
Longcol
Sheffield is bigger than Nottingham & Leeds. With a population of 547,000, the City of Sheffield is England’s third largest metropolitan authority … http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/your-city-council/sheffield-facts-figures/population-information Leeds is the centre for the West Yorkshire conurbation - they have Bradford and Wakefield (among others) bang next door. Nottingham is the centre for the county - plus it's got Derby just over the M1 and Leicester about 25 miles down the motorway. The City of Manchester has a smaller population than Sheffield as well, but Greater Manchester is much bigger. They are all regional centres. Sheffield is at best a sub - regional centre. That is the reality when it comes to companies looking where to develop.

Dragonfall
Sheffield is at best a sub - regional centre. That is the reality when it comes to companies looking where to develop. To break it up into areas like that, is not how people travel though - you may as well link any cities or towns in a 25-mile radius, & call it a regional centre. In which case - add Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham to Sheffield's region (all within a 25-mile radius). People from all these towns descend on (Sheffield's) Meadowhall - the same way the population of Greater Manchester descends on the Trafford Centre. And at the end of the day, the reality is that IKEA did want to open a large store just off the Sheffield Parkway, it was SCC that put the block on it.
