Censorship and the inter net

There is no reasonable justification as to why the tv broadcast and print media are heavily regulated while the internet remains a wild west free for all which it basically is, especially now given that it is so integral to everyone's lives. The TV watershed which is still largely adhered to, seems ridiculous now when at any time children can access anything and everything with a few screen taps on their devices.

Of course there is reasonable justification. The internet can not be regulated like TV or radio. The only way it can be regulated is if you adopt China’s approach. Is that what you want?

Hots on, you are confusing "content providers" like for instance "The Daily Express" with "The Internet" which is a means to transmit data. Even politicians do this. The internet is a bit like "the Post Office" in my view.  If someone sent you an offensive letter you should blame the person who sent it not the post office.

True, but it isn't rocket science to block certain sites, or alert authorities when they are being used, e.g sexual abuse sites etc.

I agree some sites should never be allowed to exist. But I believe that the internet is unable to be Policed.

I understand that the "dark web" (whatever that is) is where the nefarious stuff "hides" away.

The internet is a sleeping giant that we have woken from it's slumber.

One of my "internet friends" had a mate who served overseas, very much on the front line.  I used to receive pictures from him that were indescribably horrific. I used my Policing power by blocking him. They were pictures that gave you nightmares.

Absolutely - as frankie Boyle said -

if someone projects a porn film on the side of a primary school the police don’t go and arrest Ron Jeremy for it.
