The state of sheffield clubbing

sean paul maybe big in his genre of music, but many clubs in sheffield have put on names equally as big in their genres, plug springs to mind when they had jeff mills dj'ing.

Jeff Mills is massive however as an artist or dj he is not as big as Sean Paul. When he played at Quality he was underground just breaking out into the mainstream, now his status is international and his success speaks for itself. I think if you went and asked who has heard of Sean Paul and who has heard of Jeff Mills there is only one winner.

You would need a stadium for Sean Paul

I am not going to respond to that because you obviously have this thing about slagging off anything remotely urban. I tell you what I will go nationally and state you can not stand in the same room as me on ANY musical front and if you want a contest to see who can shoot the best tunes, lets go. The Face has a much better rep than DJ and Mix mag as these mags now have to rely on porn ads and chat up lines for income. You can have your opinion but this is fact and some how i know you do not like it. What have you done in Sheffield to bring your selve to even contend with i do not know.

But like your name sake bring it. ;)

Ha ha ha, is this for real? Read again, I never mentioned any sort of music or Quality once, so dust that chip of your shoulder. I'll just chuckle to myself about the other stuff, it really does amuse. In fact no, I'm gonna join in an humour you...

I'd bet I'm a better guitarist though, if you want to go down the ANY music route. I studied music at college. Hmmmm, what other riduculous & unquantified 'big ups' can I give myself so you can respond? I bet I've got a more Geordie accent than you! I'm clearly the winner (bored of irrelevant rubbish yet?).

Re the Face, I should have edited that to cover any magazine, as I said, it's just an opinion, I wasn't having a go at that particular publication.

Fed up of this now.

Alright pal, you think what you want, you're always right anyway. I'm the one slagging off when you're suggesting people are ignorant for not agreeing with you? Fine, one day I'm sure to work out your logic but for now, I'm out.

See ya!

I wasnt going to rise to it - but for the record i've played round the country a bit and at a few festivals including twice at The Glade festival (15000 capacity trance & breaks festival nr Newbury)... not that it really matters..

Well clearly it does matter, that way your opinion will count because you're the bestest and know more ;)

Does my opinion count cause the NME said that our Northern techno alliance free parties were one of the top 5 things to do in sheffield :P

Hope that makes me special too

Depends where you're asking, if you were in a techno club in Detroit you might be found wrong. ;)

Sorry, I just love picking holes in your reasoning. :hihi:

Remember, it's all OPINION. One man's trash is another man's treasure and all that.

Clearly! If it can be read in black and white then it's correct!

I think there is some law of internet threads that, no matter what the original topic, by page ten it will turn into a meaningless squabblefest!

So on a positive note - what specifically would make Sheffield clubbing better - there's already been quite a few suggestion of what the council could do - any more??

Yay! Fight ON!

I was gonna try and drag it back but I'm fed up of the doom and gloom, it really angers me what's going on in Sheffield at the mo, I think there's a lot of love and passion for the clubbing scene but it's so often met with a lot of apathy that people wonder why they bother. You get groundbreaking world class talent coming to the city and only a handful of people turn up. Stick some 80's hits on and drop the drink prices and the place is rammed, now how does that work? (BTW, I know how it works, it's a figure of speach, before someone starts explaining  ).
