nanrobbo
Do you remember the skipping song "House to let apply within when I come out Vera comes in" and statues- I remember the name but can't quite remember how it went (you had to stand frozen??). Have a lovely, lovely holiday in Australia Hazel. Regards Mary & Marina

Shelagh
Oh my, I really have enjoyed reading this thread, so many happy memories and we were one of the poorest about. I was born in 1949 and fondly remember the walking on tins cans, bunging up the drain in the back yard in summer so the whole street could use it as a paddling pool, communial bonfires in the back street(summat like the Holler) everybody burning their old settees and junk. My brother and I had a favorite play place, climbing over a 10foot wall into a scrap yard and playing among loads of old metal, another was train spotting on the wall opposite (we lived on Brightside Lane) as has been said many times "how we weren't killed "I don't know. thursday
We used to stand on the footbridge over the railway lines, and play "Ghosts" in the clouds of steam as the trains passed beneath us. Then we would go home and get told off for smelling of steam train, smoke and cinders.

hazel
Thanks nanrobbo. Vera thinks you are living in Melbourne which is a little far for you to join us but wouldn't it be nice. Especially as I am now living very near to your house in Chapel St Sheffield. Thanks for the good wishes hazel
nanrobbo
No I don't live in Melbourne ( I'm still quite lively )- I live down the road from Vera near Wisemans Ferry. But at the moment I'm doing the 'specialists' run around, nothing serious, otherwise it would be nice to see you both. - Say hello to my old house for me- I believe it has been sold recently. You are getting some strange holiday weather - hope you didn't bring it with you??

RoyalRegular
Thanks, and you're welcome Nan.... Does anyone remember the sugary crystal stuff you used to buy? You'd dip your finger in and lick it off....always ended up with a blue or orange finger! We used to make our own out of cocoa and sugar and take it out in a cone made from newspaper. Then there was BlackJacks and Fruit Salads from the penny tray-4 for a penny.....can you still get them? And those spaceshippy things made from ricepaper and filled with sherbert, and my favourites-white chocolate mice!
