SILLY
And staring into the burning embers looking for faces and jumping out of the way when somebody threw eggshells on and they spit back at you.

Treatment
Getting mottled legs and freezing behind! My Mum used to warm her bum near the fire when she thought we weren't looking. My Dad, late at night, used to '' roast '' himself in front of the fire because it was the only relief that he could get from Prickly Heat, which he got in the Army. It did a better job than that Izal stuff, which was like non absorbent waxed paper. Do they still make it?
nosy nellie
Falling asleep resting on the fireguard. Having a fall of soot. Setting the chimney on fire. Pegging rugs. Going across the yard to the toilet in the snow. Donkey stoning the steps as poor as they were the grates and the paving slabs outside were washed every week. How maddening it was when you were reading the newspaper hung on the back of the toilet door and the most interesting bit was missing,no wonder we called it the reading room.
