Incomer
A very sad loss to Sheffield and the whole of South Yorkshire. Only having been here for a few years I did not realise how long he had been on Radio Sheffield. I hope Radio Sheffield can come up with some sort of tribute. Spacehopper
Nah Den Ace......... Yeah, sad news. Does anybody remember him having a small part in Band of Gold (Geraldine James, Kathy Tyson, etc based in Bradford)? Also didn't he coin the phrase "wazzock"? Regards, Spacehopper. MrH
Very sad news. He was the first person to interview me live (a long time ago) and he always said hello whenever he saw me (although I wasn't convinced he could remember who I was !) He was a very witty man, and a very professional broadcaster with everything he did, be it radio or TV. And he was enormously funny live both as a comedian/ musician and an after dinner speaker. His downfall was drink, and seems to have been throughout his career, right back to the late 70s - which probably now explains his departure from Radio Sheffield. He will be fondly remembered by many. RIP.
riddo7up
And to think that at the time he left Radio Sheffield, he was considered good enough for "Last of the summer wine", but not for local radio. He was the embodiment of all that is attractive about the South Yorkshire sense of humour and will be sadly missed
