Anyone been to Malta recently?

Recommended Posts

hmm, where to start??

Depending on what you're into, British pubs, egg n chips etc go for Buggiba, Ibizia style nightlife you want Paceville (st julians area) Gozo is quiet but ask the agents if there's any development going on next door, as Malta and Gozo are rife with building works which start at 7am. Diving excellent all over, Golf try somewhere else, there;s is golf but its a dusty dry horrible place so I hear. There are a few nice resorts (raddison golden sands for instance) and if you are coming over avoid public transport / taxis (ignorant drivers and rip off prices to tourists) and hire a car, we drive on the left here (well most of the time).

I went about 20 years ago - hated every minute of it except visiting the catacombs and the blue grotto (and even there they were trying to rip off the tourists).

I vowed never to go again.

It was like a massive DANGEROUS building site and that coupled with the electricity going off on the whole island everynight was a recipe for disaster.

We love Malta, and will be going again as soon as funds allow.

We prefer off peak as we don't like the crowds and it's not so hot.

I find it a fantastic place to chill out, the buses are great and regular although they have a reputation as being boneshakers lol

We don't go for nightlife so couldn't advise about St Julians for the clubs, but Bugibba is great.

The best thing for me is that it all feels so family orientated (no kids for me) and it's grear to see them all together having a barbee, fishing, swimming, socialising etc.

We also prefer to go full or all inclusive.

it's true though, Malta is a place you love or hate. On my first visit, as we arrived at our hotel I wanted to get the next flight home, but soon changed my mind.

The worst thing for me now are the timeshare peeps, they do get on your nerves. just be harsh and tell them NO!! lol

Malta is an acquired taste. good points - great harbour and historical sights, if you are interested in history you will love it. Valletta is good in parts and worth a visit. The

Sunday market is ok but everything they sell is fake. BAD points bus drivers will try and rob you if you give them more than the fare. you will be short changed. that leaves a

bad taste. the Government doesnt look after the island like they should and the place

looks like a tip. try it once you might like it, if not at least its hot. don't go on coach trips as they either take you around churchs or shops.

I remember a local travel company had big advertising hordings all over the island saying "the highlight of your holiday, a trip to sicily" so basically saying we're so crap you'll love it in another country

I loved Malta ...we went to Bugibba as a family of 5 (kids were aged 2, 8, 6) ...if they was anything to dislike it was the swimming pools which were all salt water...it didnt really bother me or the Hubby but kids didnt like it very much and would spit and blow raspberrys !! :hihi:

Loved the yellow buses !!

  • 12 years later...

Sorry for rising up old thread. I am going to Malta in August and looking a place to stay at least for a month. Maybe they have their own website of apartment rent? Ofcourse I know booking. Second question is what is best way to get to apartment from hotel. I find this one https://www.cool.mt/ but with public transport maybe would be cheaper?
