Real Ales at the Dove and Rainbow

If it's real ale to take home you are after, then the Archer Road Beer Stop is always a good bet. It's a specialist off licence, with shelves and shelves of bottled beer crammed into the little corner shop! They also do a good continental selection too, and if you are drinking the same night, they do handpulled ales in carry out cartons!

Indeed! In days of yore I and a mate lived on Abbeydale Road opposite Lowes, and we were perennially skint ....... take out cartons, and sat on the corner with pint pots filled from said cartons ........ and it was by far the nearest Wards outlet :)

I think the nearest would have been the Priory Inn (possibly the Crown or Bridge), and the easiest the Barrel, but Small Beer (as it was) was the best!

I miss proper Wards so much ...... :(

Also at Archer Road the owner and staff know their stuff and will happily suggest beers or discuss suitable choices.

Back on topic, the Strongarm was going down a bit too well on my last visit to the Dove...

It was the Burton that did that for me last time ..... yum yum yum ......

Just a thread to say that this is an excellent bar/pub

Went in tonight with a mate. Plenty of cask ales on the go, as well as draught beers.

Without doubt the only bar I have ever been in that only plays decent music. My mate requested a few songs, and although they didnt have any Dream Theater, they played the requested tracks straight away.

Will definitly be going again, superb pub.
